St. Andrew's Day Gifts with a hint of Scotland

Forget Black Friday and Cyber Monday, - both of which are US imports - there’s only one date between now and Christmas that really matters to us here in Scotland. That’s St Andrew’s Day, our national day on the 30th of November.

Many people are unaware that in 2006 the Scottish Parliament passed the St Andrew’s Day Bank Holiday (Scotland) Act 2007. This designated the day as an official public holiday. If the 30th of November falls at the weekend, then the following Monday is a bank holiday instead.

Although most of us seem to go to work on St Andrew’s Day - Boo-Hoo! - there are still plenty of events taking place to entertain folk. Out here in East Lothian we’re home to The Saltire Festival from 24–30 November, which features a great selection of activities across the region. Do visit their webby for more info, and pop out if you can!

All this chat about St Andrew’s Day got me thinking about gifts that incorporated a hint of Scotland. Here’s what I found:

Tartan Hi-Tops

Immediately made me feel nostalgic for the Bay City Rollers. That said, hi-tops are always on-trend, and these are available in a variety of different tartans, and a wide range of sizes. Perfect!

We think eco-friendly gifts are fab and we love! Love!! LOVE!!! this Rowan Tree from Tree2MyDoor.com. A gift that will truly last a lifetime, will look amazing, and helps to improve the environment too. What more could you want?

Falkirk Wheel Model

Scotland has recently become home to some iconic new landmarks, and the Falkirk Wheel is just one of them. This scale model of our innovative rotating boat lift takes about an hour to make. An ideal present for that crafty sailor that you know.

Afternoon Tea at The Tower Restaurant, Edinburgh

The Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh is an amazing place and could happily spend hours there. What better way to round off a visit than enjoying afternoon tea in their Tower Restaurant? Why not treat yourself and opt for a glass of bubbly too! Don’t forget to take your camera, the views are stunning.

Saltire Bandana for Dogs

Who can’t resist dressing-up their dog? Especially on St Andrew’s Day! Your pooch will look adorable wearing Scotland’s national flag? I know that Harry and Jess, my two Lhasa Apros, will be wearing their bandanas with pride!!!
